Christmas Gift Ideas for Dads
November 20th, 2007Buying a Christmas present for Dad is usually more likely to make you procrastinate than Dr Phil during exam week, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Dad’s don’t drop obvious hints like mums tend to, but the are not that hard to please, in fact with this list you’ll be putting the big fella first for a change. And if you get to the bottom of the list in 10 years… go straight back up to the top and start again. It’s easy!
- Pyjamas – How embarrassed were/are you when friends drop around and Dad comes out in his daggy PJs with a hole in the crotch? You can put a stop to this behavior and doll your dad up in some snappy jammies. It is not only a present for him but it doubles as a present for you … happy days!
- Peter Alexander designer pyjamas for men (Australian based company but also ships to other countries)
- A break - I don’t think many people can name a dad that doesn’t need one so give him what he really needs this Christmas and send him on a short break. A holiday might be a bit over budget but what about a couple of nights at his favourite spot or, if this is all a bit over the top, why not get a voucher to encourage him on his way.
- Wotif.com discount accommodation website offers accommodation gift vouchers which are valid for 12 months.
- Digital Photo Frame - This is the present de jour in this Christmas and it doesn’t matter who you are buying it for. Just make sure you load it up with heaps of images that they’ll love and it is a sure fire winner.
- Magazine Subscriptions - Whatever he is into (fishing, surfing, golfing, socializing, health) there will be a magazine that covers the topic. Most of these can be purchased without even leaving your computer and it is a gift that keeps on giving all year!
- Cook book & Apron - Whether your dad specializes in barbequing or if you have a more creative cooker to cater for, a nice cookbook with a funny “kiss the cook” apron is sure to crack a smile on the most hard-to-buy-for Dads.
- Alcohol - Wine, Whisky, whatever they are into, buy it by the case and watch their eyes light up!
- Experiences -Fishing trips, surfing lessons, mountain climbing/biking experiences, concerts and anything to get dad out of the house and into something that he enjoys is a great gift. Most Dad’s won’t get out and buy it themselves but they will relish the opportunity to get back into something they haven’t done for years – especially if you go along with them.

- DVDs/CDs - If sitting on the couch is more up your dad’s alley, then the latest action/drama/thrillers on DVD or their old favourites on CD are a great gift that they will really enjoy. You may have to arrange for someone to put it on for them or load them into the CD player in the car, but once they get into it they will be happy.
- Games - I am not talking about PS2 games (although if your dad is into that go for it) but a fun board or activity game is a great present that dads will love – even if you only play together once on Christmas day.
- Aftershave - I know it is cliché but this is a tried and tested favourite and something dads will have to buy themselves if they don’t get it as a present. Why not save them the trouble, so that they can focus on the things that they really want to buy, and you couldn’t’ think of for a present this Christmas.
