Christmas Gift Ideas for Men
November 20th, 2007It is no secret that women are great consumers and hence easy to buy Christmas presents for, but when it comes to men it is a different story entirely. Whether they are metro or manly, you tread a fine line when making present decisions for men that could mean your gift this year is either a flop or tops. The key is to pay attention to what they are into and take their lead. If you stick to this principle you can’t go too wrong.
Here are a few suggestions to guide you on the right path…
- Clothing - The new era of metro-sexual men has increased the likelihood that men will shop themselves somewhat; however, most men will still appreciate anyone else doing the shopping for them. T-Shirts with funny slogans that suit their personality are always a hit or for the more traditional men ties, socks and polo shirts never go astray. Just remember to take notice of what the man you are buying for usually wears and remember not to step too far outside of their comfort zone.
- A weekend away - A couple of nights at their favourite fishing/surfing/ relaxing/partying spot will be a winner for most men. But if this is a bit over the top, why not get a voucher to help them on their way.
- Gadgets - Toys for grown men. Electric car polishers, leaf blowers, remote control cars, electronic poker machines, MP3 players anything that you can charge up and play with is sure to get the thumbs up.
See our page on gadgets for more suggestions.
- Alcohol - Wine, Whisky, whatever they are into, buy it by the case and throw it in a new cooler or beer fridge to really turn it into a present that keeps on giving.
- Experiences - They may not look impressive under the tree, but the memories will last a life time. If they have every wanted to sky dive, bungee jump, brew their own beer, go deep sea fishing or do something you know they already enjoy like go to a concert or play a round of golf at a ritzy green, then this is your chance to help them on their way.
- DVDs/CDs - Who doesn’t like CDs and DVDs? As long as you know their taste well enough to pick something they will like it will be money very well spent. Try for movies that are for more generic tastes if you are not sure, however, if you are not sure what music they are into it is probably best to stick with films.
- Aftershave - An essential for every man so why not save them the effort, so that they can focus on the things that they really want to buy.
- Books - Biographies of their favourite historical figure, sporting star or business man are always interesting or if you know what they like to read then it is even easier to keep them happy.
- Magazine Subscriptions - Whatever he is into (fishing, surfing, golfing, socializing, health) there will be a magazine that covers the topic. Most of these can be purchased without even leaving your computer and it is a gift that keeps on giving all year!
- Pampering - Women aren’t the only ones who like to be pampered. A manicure and pedicure might be over the top (although not ruled out) but most men will love a good massage as much as women do. Push the boundaries and thrown in a facial or make it a full day at a spa so that they can really get used to how the other half live.
